House of Commons’ Learning and Organizational Development trainers were gearing up to deliver in-house training. Trainers with varied levels of experience were teaming up with Subject Matter Experts. The Magic of Facilitated Training 2-day train-the-trainer workshop was pared down to a very tight 1-day event.

Managers at McGill University Health Center (5 leading hospitals, and 10,000 health care and other personnel) recognized the benefits of communication workshops. Briefly, the goal was to help-employees respond when faced with confrontational and stressful situations. I have been delivering about 10 workshops each year since 2008.
Professional Development Series for Trainers - While the instructor's main task is to share knowledge, a subject to be taught and learned, the facilitator manages the process and group dynamics. It becomes obvious that linking facilitation to training is a winning combination that can only bring about great results. Hence, we speak of the Magic of Facilitated Training.

Assisting Dominique Dennery, Dennery International, in developing workshops to be delivered to DFAIT’s Canadian Mission in Beijing, I crafted unique activities. Topics included leadership, presentation skills, and managing priorities, and the activities supported messages and concepts in a manner that sought participation while respecting multiple cultural preferences.
For 40 years now, P&WC training has been recognized for quality courses. They are a strong example of our clientele, people who seek to perfect their instructor skills through annual workshops. For 2 consecutive years, I delivered components of my train-the-trainer program.

The RESP Advisory Group provides a forum to inform the Canada Education Savings Program on issues and challenges that face the industry. Representatives raised several issues, many of which have been long-standing. I engaged 40 members in a 1-day session to structure their work, identifying priorities and issues, in preparing work plans that support government priorities.

About 1.5 years ago, Covidien implemented 3 ways to meet, inform, and chat with staff working over a 24-hour schedule. I facilitated a session, with Discussion Guide, with about 16 employees to obtain a sense of how they evaluated the communication efforts of upper management. Pertinent feedback and suggestions for improvements were gathered in a full report.
I worked on developing a learning continuum, learning policies and a guide for TC Inspectors to standardize the training across all modals. The contract ended with a 2-day Team Building and Business Planning event.
